ISST-90. lie was born in 1800. and was a barrister and solicitor. He joined the lirm of Hell. Cully and Izard in 188-5. but Mil -e----f|Uolillv retired from the firm. He served on a number of Wellington local bodies, and was member for Wellington Xortli from I90"i till lf)i>B. defeating Mr .John Dtithie. For some years Mr Iwird was on the Wellington City Council, and became a member of the Legislative Council in 11118. 811! Fin XT I S DAHWTX. LOXDOX. Sept. 10. The death is reported of Sir Frtmeis Darwin.
Sir Francis Darwin. D.Sc.. M.H.. F.H.S.. was the third son of Charles Darwin, and was born in 1818. Kducated at Cambridge and at St imarge's Hospital. London, lie 1 graduated in medicine but did not practise. He became assistant to his father and. on the latter's death, went, 'to live in Cambridge. He wrote a biography of lii.s father and wrote much on botanical subjects. In 1903 he was president of the British Association.
