Mr Lloyd George, outlining the Liberal Party's land campaign, said the State should resume its authority over the land, and the landlords should he fairly compensated, but. not by a. capital payment, and not for the monopoly value.’ They .should get the same net income as they now enjoy. British agriculture was at present under capitalised. so that State credit was essential. In place of the landlord and tenant system, a new form ol land tenure should he established. The only title to use land for agriculture should he the ability to use it well. Indolent and inefficient cultivators could not lie permitted to entrench themselves in the land. Small holdings iuu-t lie encouraged. livery labourer mould receive half an acre of land of his own. Afforestation and drainage must he speeded up. LEOPARD STILE UNCAPTURED. AUCKLAND, Sept. IS. COMMUNIST BARR ED. LONDON, Sept. 17. Mr Sakiatvala. M.R. for Battersea, is indignant regarding America’s attitude in excluding him as a Communist, under ts Immigration Act.
