"A WOMAN OF STO.XK" MONDAY iin .Monday next, at tho Princess IhciiLre :i special Fiist -National Fentnro u ill' las presented, starring Alice Joyce, .Marjorie Daw and Clivo Brook in "A Woman of .Stone." Frank Stayton, the well-known novelist, is re.-ponsi b.le tor the .s'lory of “The Passionate Adventure" picture title "Tiie Woman of Stone.' The plot is woven round the sincere and passionate love of Adrian St. Clair for his beautiful hut cold, nil responsive wife, Dnisilhi. and the scenes are laid particularly amid high society and slums of London. The action i- quick, and passes rapidly from one tense episode to the next. While the situations aro most unusual, they are so delicately handled that not even the most refined sensibilities could he offended. The stellar role of Drusilla is played by that incomparable screen actress. Alice Joyce. Her ehan terisafion of the cold and unresponsive wife, and, later, when she deseovers that she really loves her husband, is a truly remarkable delineation, ain't one which will add much to Miss .Joyce’s already brilliant reputation, which dates hack to early Victorian days. Clive Brook port rays Adrian SI. Clair, and he I,rings to the characterisation a strength and masculinity which is rarely shown by a leading man—even tlie best of them. We do not hesitate to predict a glowing future for him. The role of Vickev. the little slum girl who falls in love with Adrian, is taken by Marjorie Daw. who needs no introduction as a most capable and loving actress. A startling and ■wonderful sfor.v. ft is a great novel made
into a still greater moving picture, ‘‘The Woman of Stone" from Frank Staylon - - daring story "The Passionate Adventure." Marriage a failure, life a bore, he found excitement in the lower strata of society. A vivid and compelling portrayal of what wreckage a cold woman can bring to a man's life. The latest in Topioals, A Trip to Otaki (scenic') and “Bovs will he Boys" (comedy) complete, the programme.
