A resolution condemning co-partner-ship. ami urging tin- workers to form -trong shop committees as weapons to compel Hie capitalists to relinquish their grip on the industries was carried by a substantial majority at tin* Trade Union Congress. despite the £ oppo-ition oi the moderates, notably rhe transport section, who described tflic motion as a thinly veiled attempt pledge the Congress to the prim ciple- of communism. By IMSS.OOO votes to 1.787.000 the Congress rejected a proposal for the gradual amalgamation of the unions with the ultimate aim of forming one big union. The Congress also turned down, hy a similar majority, an amendment deprei at ing the foundation ot one union, but welcoming the efforts t,, consolidate tin* trade unions into mere effective units. The time for fighting barricades has not yet arrived. Now is a period of respite when they must learn to know how to persuade one anothei.
