I have the honor to report upon the progress of works during the month of August. NORTHERN RIDING. Mallroy’s Bridge Repairs. £2f> 0 grant. The working party under the '■ direction of Bridge Foreman 11. Rev- i nolds. continued repairs to the most ' faultv portions of the strucure. The following faulty timber was removed, and replaced. Repairs were effected to laid holes on K tuna ra Road beyond Kapiton Greek bridge, and wateriahles denned and growth cleared in a portion of the old niad bevond Goldshorottgh. Awntuna Road which has been mu. up considerably by heavy motor traffic, was being repaired at the latter end of the month. Gillum's Gully Road was partly repaired at the upper end by Roadman Olderog. assisted by one labourer, ami a horse and dray for nine days. Repairs ceased on the 20th of the mouth to allow the Roadman, to take charge of Awatumt Road repairs. A dauT section of drain was cleaned in Stafford Township. Wtuertablos were denned oil Two .Mile, and Blue Spur t > Ara.burn Road. .Metal v.as broken and bnii-. repaired on Arahura Valley and Spent cr Roads. A defective culvert on Two Mile Roatl was reconstructed, stringers and decking being substituted in place of covering to allow tin increased waterway. CENTRAL RIDING. McArthur Road Construction £10') Grant. The Contractors have completed this work the specified distance of it) chains, anti have made a first class mad throughout. The small balance from the grant will be expended in constructing a 12 inch diameter pipe culvert at peg TO chains 10 links. '.MAINTENANCE. Purl inns of Cpper it ml Lower Knkninhi. Koiiorntigi, Cropps anti Wall Ronds were repaired ait It gravel, and portions of lower Kokatahi ami Kmterangi Komis raked with the horse drawn drag. Lower Kokatahi Road, which was cutting up badly under heavy timber traflic, was graded with the large road grtttler resulting in an impove- , t which will be more noticeable when well rolled with I lie ten ten roller. Erg.mt repairs were elleeted O' verv bad portions of Lake Kunicri road, bey,>ntl Boucher's Creek Bridge; also to bail Imlcs on Blue Spur Roatl. Two defect ivo culverts on Blue Spur Hoad and three defective culverts on Lake Kanieri Roatl were renewed with concrete 'pipes. V. atertables wet e cleaned on Lake Kanieri. Hokitika. Hail flan, and Adairs Roads. Artlmrsitnvu. Lower Art fpirstnwn. .Mahinapua. and Adairs Roatl* wore repaired with gravel ami portions graded with the large roatl grader and rolled with the tell toll roller. Repairs were not completed to Mahinapua Roatl between the Hokitika Railway Bridge am! Mahinaptta Creek Bridge, owing to the County Motor Truck being required lor urgent' repairs to portions ol Lnwot Kokatahi, and Awatuim Roads. Defective docking was replaced on Y.'c'ite Creek, Duck Creek, anti Kanieri River Bridges. (Kokatahi Road) and stringer- and decking renewed on a 11 left culvert on Cropp’s Road. Vito read drain along the eastern boundary of Wall Road was cleaned and cleared a distance of It chains.
