EX-BANK MANAGER GAOLED HAMILTON. Sept. 1
Arthur Charles Thymic, of Mnrrinsville. an ox-bank manager, was found guilty of failing to keep proper book*. He was recommended to mercy.
On four other charges of breaches of tho Bankruptcy Act. lie was lonnd not guilty.
Mr Justice Ik-rdmaii said the prisoner’s experience should have shown him the necessity of keeping proper tecords. He was satisfied that the prisoner was not honesi in all his dealings. It was not a case for probation. In the interests of commercial morality he would have to impose punishment. Prisoner was sentenced to three mouths’ hard labour.

An inquest concerning the death ot ilo- child Doreen Cuff, who was drowii- ,.,| ai the Lyttelton ferry wluirf on Thnrsdav evening, was held yesterday before Mr H. Y. Widdovson. Coroner, at Lvttelton. Archibald Cuff, tho father ol the child, said he was a miner at Blackball. lie arrived in Lyttelton from the West Coast on Thursday evening with the intention of proceeding to Wellington with his two children. Oil leaving the brain at the ferry wharf a fellow-passenger, a man. took charge of the child Doreen, and carried her along to the ticket office. Thinking she was in safe keeping, witness proceeded to get the steamer tickets. On turning away from the ticket box lu> saw the child alongside the steamer, reaching out with both hands to touch it. lie saw her full between the wlnirl and the ship, and gave the alarm.
