RUDOLPH VALENTINO AND FATTY ARBUCKLE.
Absolutely tho finest programme shown in Hokitika will ho screened at McLean’s Pictures this evening. Tiie star picture is entitled “ Camille ” starring the greatest actor the world has ever seen, Rudolph Valentino. “ Camille ” is a soul-stirring story of tragic intensity and a drama of passionate love. Love comes to Armaiul Duval, a young law student completing his studies in Paris, when he meets Marguerite Gautier, known as Camille, one of the most notorious women in the city of pleasure. He forsakes hi, family for her, and she returns his love, and abandons her friends of the demi luomle. They live in the country together and the days pass happily, hut money is lacking. Armand’s in(onic is insufficient, and he decides to make use of his mother’s legacy while Marguerite makes an inventory of hor things, and decides to sell them. The matter of the legacy comes to the knowledge of Arinnnd’s fa I her, who visits Marguerite and entreats her to give up Armaiul. For the sake of his future she consents. She returns to Paris, to her life of pleasure. In desperation she cries for “madder music and stronger wine.” in tho vain attempt to forgot llie happiness she has voluntarily sacrificed because ol her devotion. She once again frequents the places whore she once held sway with her beauty and charm. One night she visits a certain gambling house with the Count do Varvillo, and sees Arliiantl. Her love for him returns, and she is about to yield to his appeals to leave Paris with him, when she remembers her promise to her father. She refuses, and in sudden jealous anger Armaiul drags her before the crowd, and denounces her. Marguerite, abandoned, becomes ill. It is only when she is dying Unit Armalld learns of her sacrifice, lie finds her clasping a hook “ Manon Descant,” his only gift to her.
