The compulsory conference lias settled strike issue about the right to hold slop-work meetings. The Government i- agreeing to meetings being hidd during working hours upon reasonable notice being given to tlie of-
fice r-iu-c barge. Tim outstanding point in the negotiations now is the basic rate lor clerks reaching the age of 21. Should an agreement he reached on this, the strike will practically have, ended. The Government- have offered £2lO pm- year for clerks. The Unions claim £221. The Strike Council is firm on this p-iiut*. and its reply to the Government’' offer is now being considered be the Cabinet. BRISBANE. Sept. 1. In the L'noeiisland Assembly, the Premier secured an adjournment until Tuesday hecau-e of the resumption of the compulsory railway conference, urging members that, in view ot the delicacy of the. situation they should not discuss the strike.
