QUEENSLAND STRIKE

There wore present- representatives of all the striking railway unions. The ■State’s Strike Council, the Commissioner of Railways, and the Public '-dr, Servile Commissioner were also present. So far no settlement has been readied. but the outlook is much brighter. MELBOURNE. Aug. 31. Mr Bruce. Federal Premier, has telegraphed to Mr Gillies, the Ptemiei of Queensland, intimating that the Commonwealth Government regarded the obstruction of mails through the railway strike as most to. serious, and adding that- the strike was a definite breach of the law, ami * l.e would he glad to receive an ns- ''V-' siiranee that prompt- action would be taken by the Queensland authorities to deal with the outsiders. BRISBANE. August 31. -Yt a mass meeting of the railwaymen, a motion was carried protesting against Mr Bruce’s tactics ill the direction of deporting Mr AYalsli. and a copy of the protest was ordered to He sent to Mr Bruce.
