QUEENSLAND STRIKE
COMPLETE IIOEI) UP. [Australia & N.Z. Cable Association.] BRISBANE, August 28. Railway traffic is completely suspended over the whole State. The strikers are posting pickets at many stations. A mass meeting of strikers at Brisbane decided to go on with the strike until the men’s object is achieved. The Government, so far, has conceded all the men’s claims, except the right to hold stop-work meetings in working hours, but the men demand a complete surrender by the Government. At present the outlook for a settlement is hopeless. The civil servants appear to he lient on aggravating the position. They propose to hold a stop-work meeting tc demand a restoration of the 3(>*} hour. l working week, which recently was extended to 89 hours week. The general public of Brisbane leli the first effects of the strike to-day. when many thousands ordinarily using the railway to go to work were lorceil to find other conveyances.
