PICTURES. “THY NAAIE IS AVOAIAN”—To-night. Tho story of to-night’s picture shows Redro the Fox, a weazened, old smuggler of the. Spanish Pyrenees, is married to the young and exotic-ally beautiful Guerita, who wedded him through pity and because of his ardent devotion to her. Captain Roderigo do Castclar, a prominent officer in the Spanish army and one of Pedro’s confederates, informs the Commandnute of his post, that Pedro is a smuggler when Guerita spurns his love. Juan Ricardo, a dashing young soldier of the post, loved by the Commandante’s daughter, Dolores, is commissioned to go to the smuggler’s cabin under the pretense of wanting his coat mended so as to make passionate love to Guerita and induces her to betray tlie hiding place of her husband's stolen goods. Boderigo forewarns the couple so that when Juan arrives at the cabin Guerita is prepared and makes advances to him. A little later Pedro arrives, and Juan leaves without finding any eontaband. Tlie soldier comes many times to the cabin drawn by the power of Gueritn’s growing love more than by the thought of getting evidence against her and Pedro. Juan is dazed; Pedro .succumbs to the shock and falls dead at Gueriia’s feet. Juan takes the girl's lileless body in his arms, still awe-stricken by it all. hut is rudely brought to liis senses, hours later, by an officer from the post sent to arrest him for having failed in his mission. Juan is brought: before the Commandante, who is about to sentence him to prison, when Dolores rushes into the room. She tells her father that lie. and he alone, is to blame; for it was he who placed .Tuan in a very uncompromising position. Tho father comes to see the matter in a lieu- light as a result of his daughter’s pleas. Ho pardons Juan, who seeks solace in the affections of Dolores. A superb supporting programme will be shown.
