Justice llerdnmn commenting, said that accused committed a most brutal assault. He kicked another native while the latter was on the ground with the result that he was unconscious for live hours. ST. MARTIN’S MYSTERY. MOUAT'S SECOND TRIAL. CHRISTCHURCH. August 24. Interest in the St. Martin s nnsteiy which attracted much public attention six months ago was revived to-day when Frederick Peter Mount again stood in the Supreme Court dock charged with the murder of his wife. Ellen Jiouisc Mount, on February 20th. The gallery was full of spectators. Judge Reed is presiding. (Proceeding). JUDGE’S COMMENT. CHRISTCHURCH. August 24. Tn his address to the Grand Jury this morning. Judge Reed said he agreed with the opinion expressed by the Chief Justice that the wave ot ! crime in the Dominion was on the decrease. He regretted, however, that this did not seem to apply to sexual offences. The whole thing was disquieting and it was difficult to suggest I a remedy, except better control in the home.
