HOKITIKA BOWLING CLUB

ANNUAL REPORT. To be submitted to the annual meeting on Monday evening: In presenting this 18th. annual report. I have pleasure in complimenting members on another successful season. The green gave some trouble owing to a. dry spell, when no water was available, and as a, result after a heavy tournament its general condition suffered to considerable extent for flic time being. The West Coast Tournament was held on the green (in conjunction with the Greymouth Club who accepted an overflow) and it passed off very successfully, some very line play resulting. The winners were—Rinks—Messrs Bras.se. Malpas. Smith and Oakey of St. Albans’ Club; Pairs—Messrs Rose and Harrison of Westport Club. This year’s tournament is set down for Mostport, and will be confined to' rink play. You are asked this evening to deeido whether you are favourable to there being it pairs tournament or for a champion of champions pairs tournament in conjunction with the singles champion of champions contest on Runauga green. The Singles Championship of the Club hist season was won by Mr H. A. Thompson, for the second year in succession, after an interesting contest, Mr Benjamin being the runner-up. Unfortunately, towing itw illness Mr Thompson was unable to take part in the Coast oliamp-ion singles contest which was inaugurated last year, and was played at M'estport. Mr F. Ulusall of Westport securing the honor for the year. Owing to the tournament taking place at Hokitika last season it was decided to allow the annual gala day to drop for tho year, but lady supporters centred their interest on the annual ball on June 3rd, which passed off very successfully, and resulted in a net profit of £25 2s. The year, financially, without the hall proceeds, just balanced itself. Tho general receipts, including members subscriptions £7O Is Oil, amounted to £H7 13s 3d, and with the ball proe, veils. £25 2s, totalled £122 15s 3d. Tho expenditure shows the season started with a debit balance of £ll-1 8s -Id the general expenses totalling £97 13s 8d ; the sear ending with a debit balance of CB9 fis 3d, a reduction of £25 Is 7d for the year. ft is again a pleasure to record tho valued assistance received from lady supporters throughout the year in connection with Club functions, the tournament and the ball. The coming year bids lair to be a busy one, but every endeavour should Im‘ made to increase the membership which continues at an unduly low standard in numbers. During the year the Club lost, several members by removal, including Mr J. Bain, a former singles champion. Last season three Club matches were played with the Greymouth Club for the Reynolds Badges, and on the last occasion our team wore successlul. and at present hold these trophies. Owing to the infantile paralysis outbreak the promised return visit to the Runanga Club did not take place but I Mould urge that a very early date be set down to make this long overdue visit to the new northern Club. The Kunangn team visited our green during the season. a> did a team from the Nelson (Tub. and oil each occasion we were, successful. In conclusion l Mould like to express my thanks to the ! Presidentand members, and lady supporters tor the ready support given at all times throughput tho year.
