The serious nature of the olfence if sunulving liquor to natives tor con sumption off licensed premises was ciniliasiseil at the Magistrate’s Court hy Mr Barton S.M.. when he imposed heavy fines on men accused ot that iffence. He added that in tho next similar cases in tins district lie would impose the maximum penalty. Joseph Dombroski and Koaki Wallace were charged with the above-men-tioned offence. (Jordon ('hisnall was •barged with aiding and abetting DmnTroski. Tiie police stated that W al'aec arranged with Chisnall to supply beer, which was ordered hy the latter, hut lie found no container available in vhieh to take the liquor away. Dombroski was inot! £2l), and Wallace and Chisnall £ls each. A BIGAMIST. NELSON. Aug. 21. Charles Finchiim, alias John \\ ilson. pleaded guilty to a charge of bigamy. Accused married in England in 1887. and later was employed as steward on a tniat trailing to New Zealand. Eventually he took up a position as cook at Tabaka, and went again through the form of marriage in 1914. Accused was committed to Wellington Supreme Court for sentence. FRAUDULENT C'OAI. DEAL. HAMILTON, Aug. 21. At the Police Court William Sydney Ferguson, fruit hawker, of Auckland, was committed tor trial on a charge if obtaining three trucks ot coal by false pretences. Evidence was adduced that accused represented himself as an agent for an Auckland merchant. .Hid entered into an agreement with a coal owner at Kitnihin for the supply of 100 tons per week, obtaining delivery of three trucks, which he sold m truck lots, and for two of which he received payment. A demand for payment b.v the coni owner made upon the accused’s alleged principal had been returned through the Dead Letter Office.
