THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
The Amekican Eagi.k. He lives because the aims of his flight are higher. Like the eagle of fable, lie can look the sun in the face without flinching. His sun is the sun of Freedom and Righteousness. And towards tli is sun he cleaves his way. his eye lmdimnied by the sophistries of selfishness or the pretences of tyranny. Therefore, he can fly straight for the blazing sun. That is the secret of his permanence in the lofty empyrean of great human purpose. —N.Z. Times.
