OTHER EXPLORATION AYORK. ‘ WASHINGTON. August 19. J The US.A. National Geographical , Society has announced that the attempts by the AlaeAlillan Navy Expedition to discover an Arctic Continent hv menus of aeroplanes will be abandoned, on aicount of the unexpected summer snowstorms, the continuous fogs and the unprecedentedly had wea- i tlier conditions, preventing the planes ( front Hying. The expedition will proceed immediately from Etah (Greenland) to accomplish its other objectives. The decision followed a radio message from AlaeAlillan. stating that l,e and the expedition members now agree that the establishment of an advance station at* Cape Hubbard anil the exploring of the Polar Sea front that point are not feasible this year, in the time that is left before the “Bowdoin" and the ‘‘Peary’’ would have to leave Etah to keep ahead of the ice harrier. The Geographical Society therefore advised AlaeAlillan to follow his own judgment in the matter, and to proceed with the other exploration work a.s he deems it wise, leaving the workin the Polar Sea for a subsequent expedition. The Society radioed that* it “has every confidence in your decision, based mi your experience, expert knowledge and integrity. It will stand by your decision in delaying the lurther exploration of the unknown area. It concurs with you in proceeding with the flirt hot plans. - ' The Society contemplates the continued exploration of the Norse ruins in Green la ml and the Labrador for the purpos'd ol making a determination as to whether eleventh century communication between the new and the old worlds existed. It also plans the airplane exploration of the interior of unknown Labrador. the studying of bird and lisfi life, and of the Eskimo tribes. It also contemplates a Night to the* Groat Lakes region from Baffin Island. STKAAIKB TURNS UP. NEW YORK. August 19.
