[lif TEI.EUIUPII —PER TRESS ASSOCIATION.] THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, August 29. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 to-day. The .Massey Burial Ground Bill, the Rotorua Borough Amendment Bill, and the Housing Amendment Bill were received from the House of Representatives and read a first time. Sir Francis Bell introduced the Samoan Shipping Bill providing for the application of the Shipping and Seamen’s Act to Samoa. The Bill was read a first time. Tic* Juries Amendment Bill of last session providing that: a majority of five-sixths may he accepted in criminal cases, except capital cases and that a trial inav he continued notwithstanding that the jury may he reduced in number was introduced by the lion. J. .McGregor and read a first time. The Council adjourned at 2.37 until 2..39 to-morrow. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.39. The afternoon sitting was entirely taken no with formal business.

At the evening sitting the following bills were read a second time:—Popular Initiative and Referendum Bill (Mr .McCombs), Harbour*. Amendment Bill (Air Alonteitli), and Workers Compensation Amendment Bill (.Mr Howard). The Summer Time Bill (Air Sidev) was taken in committee, but on clause 3 being defeated progress was reported. The House rose at 12.25.
