McLEAN'S PICTURES.
JACKIE COOGAN. Mr Harry McLean will present a magnificent programme on Friday evening at the Princess Theatre. The star picture is entitled “Long Live the King” starring the world’s greatest juvenile actor, Jackie Coogan. The story in brief is as follows. In the capital of Lavonia, a small kingdom in the Balkans, the old king is dying. In the town revolutionaries plot for the overthrow of the. monarchy, and itt the castle itself others plot for the neighbouring Kingdom of Karnia to make themselves masters. Crown _ Prince Otto, grandson of the old king nttd heir to the throne, is taken to the opera. 'The frowns and angry murmurs of the- people turn to cheers as they see the little Prince. In the paliico Mettlich—the Chancellor, persuades the King that Karl ol Karnia should he married to the Princess lTcdwig to protect T.avonia from a war with Karnia. The King consents. At the opera the play does not amuse the little prince. AVatehing for an opportunity he slips from the royal box and makes his way to the street. He hurries to the park and there meets Bobhv. an American hov. Together they visit the amusement- park owned by Bobby’s father, and ride on the scenic railway. The disappearance of the prince is noted, and troops scour the city. But all are forced to report failure. Great fears aro entertained for his safety, but late that evening a little dirty boy, whom the guards have difficulty in recognising as little prince, approaches the gate. For his disobedience his grandfather refuses In sees him for some days. Tn the meantime the intrigue of the palace goes on. The Princess ITedwig is informed of the coming marriage of state with Prince Carl of Karnia. The Countess Olga in love with Karl is angered at the turn of events. Her secret love is known to the conspirators, who. making use of the betrayal of Laconian affairs through iter letters to Karl, forces Digit- to join them. She consents to find a way for the conspirators to kidnap the little Prince, knowing that when the old king dies and the prince does not appear before the people, according to custom, they will ho able to swav the people. But, to tell any more of this drama would spoil the entertainment. A superb supporting programnio will also bo shown.
