August 17. A record crowd at Taunton gave Hobbs a splendid ovation on his emerging from the pavilion. His score on Saturday evening was nnicty-ono unfinished and there was wild enthusiasm when after a few minutes to-day he completed the century. He only added another single, however, when he was caught by Hill off British. The comparison between Hobbs ami Grace is of little avail for the two great batsmen made their runs under very different conditions.
