Till'. TID[':IUTT.AI{ TKS'I’. LONDON. .1 lino ‘JO. Dairy fanners will read with interest. a. report just issued by the Privy Council Medical Research Coimcil on the result of an inquiry into luberrulin tests in entile. In the early, part of lfljl representations were made to tie* Ministry of Health by Viscount: Astor. Viscount Klvedett and .Mr Wilfrid Buckley, of the urgent need for further and better regulation of the value id* the familiar tuberculin tests in cattle. Tu consequence, the Medical Research Council enlarged an existin'' tuberculin com • mitteo and widened its terms of iofercnce to include cattle. The cowmittoe were surprised to iiml how very little ex|Ku't work had been done on the subject, in Britain, or indeed, anywhere. Their work, therefore lills up a wellmarked hiatus in our knowledge, a in! while the inquiry was thorough in its scientific side the practical was no\ei lost sight of by the council. Two definite conclusions were reached bv the'council. First , it is now as good' as proved that of the three methods of test in vogue, the so-called “intruderniid” —and in hnglaud the least popular metnod—is much the best. Secondly, that the tuberculin used must ho ot high potency well attested. When it is added that the application of the tuberculin test is now simpler than it was and that error is not as much as ft per cent, i.aen the tuberculin test is properly applied, it is made clear that the council Inis achieved a definite good, and has placed in the hands of the Ministries of Health and Agrculture an effective agent for the promotion of the general health.
