'Australia & N.Z. Cable Association.] LIBERALS OVERWHELMED. ST. JOHNS, Aug. 10. The Liberal Government, under Proinier Peniot. was overwhelmed at the New Brunswick Provincial elections today. The Conservatives, led by Mr .1. B. M. Baxter, gained control of the Legislature. The New Brunswick linn! election returns are: Conservatives (Opposition), 30 seats; Government (Liberals) 12 seats. U.S. FINANCE. NEW YORK. August 11. \ message from Sampscott states the big guns of the army and navy are trained on part of Mr Coolidge's economy programme. Ibe Budget Director. Lord, favours cutting for 1920 an approximate 50M110.000 dols. irom 111-0 military appropriations. totalling 571 million dollars. This is agreeable to Mr Coolidge though General Pershing and other high olticers are opposed to it. on the grounds of national safety. The winter 1921 Congress over-ruled Lord, and appropriated twenty-nine million more than was recommended for national defence proposed. The Budget totals 3088 million dollars, only two hundred million eight thousand less than the present year’s budget. Reduction in military appropriation is countered by increases in other departments and a twenty-five million doll.it public building programme. Mr Cooljclgo favours unstinted appropriation for aviation services in the Army and Navy. He lxdievcs in the development of fhe Air forces. The aviation expenditures which in 1925 were nineteen million dollars, will probably reach twenty-five million dollars in 1920,
