Till-: HUMMING 111 11 D” —FRIDAY

Gloria Swanson has a role entirely different to those she has played before in her latest picture for Paramount “The Humming Bird.” Miss Swanson acts witli line zest and terror and proves by her chnfactorisation ot the little Apache girl Toinctte that she is an actress of no mean ability. It lias been handled in a masterly fashion I>y the director. Sidney Oleolt, who Inis lifted it well above the ordinary. The acting of Miss Swanson impressed us and ran away with the picture for a while, hut later while we enthused just as much about her acting the picture interested us intensely. Miss Swanson plays the role of a little Apache Toinctte. She is commonly known as “The Humming Ril'd.” an elusive person as lar as the police wete concerned, ami badly wanted hv them. Then there comes to the little cafe where she dances, a newspajjer man with whom she falls in love. He goes to the war and she finds hersell discovered and thrown into prison. There site finds happiness when lie recovers, lint later her dreams fall away, when she is recognised by an insitector of police. How site finds happiness would not he fair to tell as it is graphically told in the closing scenes ot an intensely intreesting and thrilling picture.
