When all the shipping services are normal again, it is estimated that there will be over one thousand seamen unemployed at Sydney, 'this is due tu the sale of a number of the Commonwealth line vessels, and to a curtailment of local services.
DISPUTE ON COMMONWEALTH LINER.

Tin? Commonwealth Line is involved in trouble with the Seamen’s Union During the voyage of one vessel from London, several oil burners and deck bauds iel used certain duties, and were logged. Ihe Seamen s l mini demanded that the logging be cancelled but the management of the line refused. and when the crew were asked tu renew their articles, thirty-six men refused to sign on again. A call at the shipping master's office tor men to take their places was unsuccessful. Efforts are now made for the arrangement of a conference between the Line and the union. WILLASTOS’S GREW TROUBLE. CHi{ ESTCH URCH. August 11. At Lyttelton .Magistrate's Court todnv. seventeen members of the crew of the steamer Willastoii were charged with impeding the progress of the Voyage of the ship by refusing duty. The ease against the Chief Cook was taken first. The master of the vessel said the crow had behaved well since leaving Home, but they refused to go to sea ltocatise six men be had to engage in New Zealand were receiving a higher rate of wages, at they wanted to be placed on the same level. The Cook was convicted and ordered to forfeit seven days’ p«y. Notice of appeal was given. .Subsequently a settlement was reached between the Master and men, ant the remaining charges were withdrawn.
