I lokii ikn-Klimara road was repaired wit 1 1 gravel and ruts inked between I.arrikins-l.cinpline and the Kiminra Borough. also water-tables elealied and a had scour repaired at the foot <>t Sandy’s Hill. Had holes were repaired and approaches lo two culverts metalled on Kumnra Beach Road, and defective ami broken decking replaced oil a ciilveri ;H the junction of Kumnra to Kapilea road. McDonald's Creek Bridge was dismantled, nod three upright piles replaced in the western abutment. Also 3 24 feel hy LI x 8 stringers renewed and 30/14 hy 8 x 3 planks removed and replaced with heart of riiiiii timber. Urgent repairs were effected to a short .section of old Christchurch Road beyond Spemer Road; water-tables cleaned on Blue Spur-Arnlnirn Road, amt encroaching purse and blackberry cleared from Two Mile Rond. The gravel pit on 11 arenurt’s Hill was stripped and a quantity of gravel broken down in readiness for repairs to Araliura Valley and Humphrey's Roads. Motor worn holes were repaired with gravel and broken stone on Araliura A’allev Road, ruts filled and stone broken on the upper end of Gillum Gully Roail. and repairs effected to damaged protective work on the northern hank of the Araliura 'River above Mnlfrov’s Bridge. McArthur Road Extension. The contractor is making stood progress with the whole of the work. 33 chains of formation, li 1 chains of metalling, 40 chains of clearing, and 5 concrete culverts being completed to date.
MA rXTKX A X C E. Repairs were effected to portions of Blue Spur. Lake Kanieri, Lower Kokatalii and Koiterangi roads, ruts raked and metal broken on Lower Kokatalii road, walertables cleaned on Ilo-kitika-Hau Han. Lake Kanieri and Lower Kokatalii roads. Artlmrstown. Lower Artlmrstown. .South Spit, and tile lower portion of Adair's road, were graded and cleaned with the large road grader, and Artlmrstown road repaired with river beach gravel from the Hokitika River Bridge at Kanieri to the Ross Railway crossing. The lower end of Adair’s Road was repaired with coarse pit gravel from Takutai towards Mabinnpua Creek Traffic Bridge, and the whole length of road well rolled with the ten-ton roller from Hokitika river bridge at Kanieri. to Takniai. The road drain on the north side of Lower Kokatalii road below I.arg rond was (leaned for a distance of '2l chains, and the outlet drain cleared of growth and cleaned from Lang Road to the Hokitika river. A creek outlet on Wall road was cleaned and cleared for a distance of twelve chains to reduce the normal water level and allow gravel to be obtained for road repairs. A slip was removed from Lake Kanieri road at McKay's Creek corner. Repairs were effected to a portion of Styx river road to allow light wheel traffic to use it. The grader was also used on Hokitika-Hau Han road between the Borough boundary and the terrace. SOUTHERX RUMNO.
A short section of Evans road formation impassable to horse traffic, was reformed, hut will not lie of much service until metalled. Portions of Ta Fontaine road wore cleaned and graded, a. Fordson tractor In'ing used in hauling the grader. Tin* roadman, with assistance attended to repairs to I.a. Fontaine and Wanganui Flat roads, and a short portion of Petersen s raid. C.F.XEII A!.. All roads in the County are showing the effects of the heavy traffic during the past wet fortnight.
