SCHOOL HOME WORK.

(To the Editor.) Sir. I was very interested in reading the account of the discussion ot the Hokitika School Committee, re the .•drive, so should like to state a few brief facts concerning my own girl who is now in the fifth standard. She has. during her schooling, attended five different schools in which different methods of teaching have been used, i.e. kindness and force, and 1. as her parent. have noticed that- when kindness is used a marked improvement has always taken place. She is now attending the Hokitika School and I may say that it is not the amount of homework she is given to do that is making her nervous and consequently dull, but the fear of the Master and his methods. I may say in conclusion. I have intended mentioning this matter before, but have refrained from doing so. as the reports of the capabilities of the head-master have tx'en such that I am hoping to see a change for the better. Thanking you for valuable space.— I am etc.. C. CEDERMAX. Revolt Street. South.
