VERY FEW DESERTERS. SYDNEY, August I
So far only about a dozen deserters from the American Fleet are reported, but until it sail.- the full number will not !h; known. The police will he sue plied with comjilete lists ol all the missing men. The Inspector-General of Police issued a statement, re the fleet’s visit, recording the fact that there had been no trouble from the visitors and the conduct of all ranks had been exemplary. TO BERTH THE FLEET. WELLINGTON. August o. Tentative arrangements are being made to berth the flagship of the lightsquadron and Pennsylvania at new Pipitea wharf where H.M.S. Hood lay. The hospital ship will be berthed on the opposite side of the harbour. The rest remain in the stream.
