AUTTEE. At the meeting of the Hokitika School Committee held last evening, during the course of business the Chairman (Rev. J. F. Jack) referred to a. sub-leader that had appeared in the “Guardian” ou Tuesday, July 21st in reference to school aifairs. He asked if members had read the article in question and was answered in the affirmative with two exceptions. Ho referred to the contents and invited a discussion. Air Richards said lie had not heard any complaints in regard to too many home lessons. In fact they had less now than when he used to go to school. Mr Wells did not think that present day scholars were overloaded with home-work. Mr S"'eney said the scholars had been having a very easy term owing to the epidemic and perhaps they were feeling it a Lit heavier liuw. The Chairman said he moved about freely among parents and ho had not heard one complaint of excessive homework. All- Ilaseler stated that no complaints had been made to 1 1 iin on tile subject. The Chairman reiterated that not one complaint had been made to him of too mncli home work. Apparently if there was any dissatisfaction it was among a minority. He thought that if that minority did not indulge their offspring in juvenile dances or .euchre tournaments their’ children would not apivear stupid or foolish as apparently some of them appeared, judging by the writer of the article. The Chairman emphasised that the members had the best of good motives nail endeavoured to make iho school a credit- to the iown.
