A great misfortune which a farmer experienced by sending his bull to the butcher instead of retaining the animal for breeding purposes was mentioned at the Stratford Jersey Club’s annual dinner by Mr M. J. Dawson, of the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture (states an exchange). The mistake occurred through the value of testing being overlooked. The hull in question had been considered as of little use as a sire, but just recently four daughters completed a test with an average production of 020 lb. per cow. The incident went to show that in all cases a hull’s worth should he proved before condemning it to the slaughter house.
