MINE FATALITY. SYDNEY, August 3. Tile body of William Crisp, who was entombed at Rothbury Colliery on July 21 has been recovered. SHIPPING LITIGATION. SYDNEY, August 3. 'file long litigation between tbe Limerick Steamship Coy and the Commonwealth Government, from March 1-ltli, 1921, has ended. An anneal was filed by the Company in the High Court against the last order ol the High Court, rescinding the order of the Supreme Court which granted the Company leave to appeal to the Privy Council. When the matter was mentioned in the High Court to-day, by consent, the appeal was struck out with costs.
A SHIPPING TRAGEDY. SYDNEY. August 3.
Two seamen from the American merchantman Eastern Moon, named John llnrniola and llelio Barstad. were taken to-day to the Hospital, suffering from heroin and morphine poisoning, when it was discovered that llarmola was dead. George Wasserman, a waiter, was arrested and charged with being in possession of deleterious drugs. It appears that Marmola and Barstad returned to the ship drunk, limy pestered Wasserman, who is the ship’s waiter and a drug addict. for sniffs of the drug, which he granted. SYDNEY, August I. At, meetings of the Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane branches of the Seaman’s Union the terms ol settlement in the shipping dispute were endorsed. In Ereiuautle the agreements were adopted with the exception ol the clause relating to engagements, which was referred hark to the ship owners through the unions committee of management. The acceptance of the agreement by Svdnev is regarded as certain. The postponement of yesterday’s meeting was due to a misunderstanding concerning the time ol the meeting. It is likely that some vessels will lie manned forthwith. The list of idle tonnage exceeds that of auv previous maritime stoppage Over 120 vessels are held up. BATING ACCOMMODATION CRITICISED. MELBOURNE, August I. At tin l annual meeting ol the \ ictoria Racing Club the committee was adversely criticised over the improvcmoiits in the shape of the increased accommodation at Flcmingtoii racecourse. The report showed tln-se cost L’281,000. whereof L’lll.lHlO was expended on the stand. Ihe clubs reserve and contingency funds bad been exhausted and there were still many improvements to be made: consequently it was decided to increase the members' subscript ions Irntn six to nine guineas and rise the entrance fee Imm thirty to forty guineas.
