A\ hen “You Are Guilty” is presented at the Princess Theatre on Tuesday night, patrons of this popular house will witness one of the biggest sensations in filmdoin. It has been enthusiastically praised in every city where it has played, doe Grantwoo?l is jealous of the business success of his adopted brother Steve. Both work in the same oilier. Their mother, a widow, loves both equally and is happy at the success of Steve. Steve goes to see Alice Farrell to tell her the good news of his promotion, an increase in salary., and ends tin by asking her to marry him. Alice becomes engaged to him. Tennettl. Steve’s employer, is also in love with Alice, bui when he loams that Stove is the lucky man he calls him into the office and congratulates him. doe has been embezzling funds from Ids employer, and changing Ihe figures on llm hooks for a considerable time. Five years pass. Steve," haunted by memories, determines to revisit the scene of his former life, lie finds out that Alice, now a widow, has just returned from abroad. "While on the outskirts of the town, lie meets a little boy pounding awav on a drum. They become friends. He manages to meet doe. and confronts him with his perfidy. .loe promises to confess, and aril down town cafe. When finally they meet, doe refuses to confess. Steve Ihreaiens him, hut leaves, uncertain what to do next, doe is murdered. Steve passing by the home of Alice Tennent sees il afire, climbs in and rescues a little Lay. whom he recognises as Ih.e littlo boy of the drum, and realizes that ii is Alice’s child. Soon after he is arrested for file murder of doc. This crime was committed with ~ knife which belonged to Steve, and which lie had forgotten on the table of tin l cafe during his conversation with doe. Sieve's fosler-tnolher. ill from the shock of doe’s death, tells Alice tlmt in some old loiters belonging to |,„. die has found that lie. ami not Steve, was guilty of the theft of monev front Tennent. At tlm trial. Steve refuses to say anything in his delence, through fear of dragging Alice’s name into court.
