Doctor Edwin Scott, the self-styled invent-or of what he has termed the “Death Stroke.” in . the form or “canned lightning.” which ho claims will revolutionise existing war tactics states that he will formally ask the Navy Department's assistance in testing his invention off the Californian coast in September. He plans to make the test with the aid of an old battleship, or a pilotless aeroplane, or with both. He said that lie wished to convinco the officials of the truth of his contentions respecting the efficacy of the invention as a death-dealing agency. He said that it is capable of the destruction. of all life, on land, on sea, am in the air within a radius of twenty miles, and of ,disabling 'all radios within similar radius. It is capable of the destruction of the superstructures of battleships ten miles away, and of bringing down airplanes at any height, and will effect the destruction m- the disabling of land fortifications at long distances. Tn a test conducted by Scott, lie claims that “holes were burned in two-inch steel plates at a distance of one mile. A triple tragedy occurred as the outcome of jealousy at Richmond, A irginia, when Rudolph Disse, eighteen, spot dead Mrs Vivian Peers, his rival George Carter, ami Detective Burke. A police squadron who had been warned by an automatic alarm, were awaiting tie robbers in the street. T'hev gave chase in a motor-car through crowded streets, anil finally cornered the bandits. A tight followed, in which two robbers were shot dead, olio was wounded and a tourth escaped.
