An accident happened yesterday at Huatapu whereby Air Henry Austin, an employee at .Messrs llutlcr Bros. Ltd. sawmill hail his leg broken. He was engaged pushing a truck, when a log rolled on him, breaking his leg and injuring his thigh, lie was conveyed by ambulance to tlie West laud Hospital for medical attention.

O'Bren .M. 8.. presented a petition to the .Minister of Justice from the residents of Ukarito. praying that the intention of the Justice Department to shift the Poli'-e Station from Okarito be not eairied out. Mr O’Brien on Wednesday last received a letter from the Minister (Sir James Barr) staling that the petition will tie carefully considered when dealing with the limiter which has not yet been finally decided.
Tiic death took plate in the Dennistun Hospital on Wednesday morning of Daniel Milligan. Deceased, who was 71 years of age, had been it resident of the district for over 40 years. He followed the occupation ol a coal miner and was a valued servant ol the Westport Coal Company. Deceased was a brother of .Mr N. Milligan, bite mine manager at Denniston. * The death took place vcstorihiv at: Grey River Hospital of .Mr William Dennis Burley. Deceased was unmarried. and a native of the Dunsian. Otago, and was 01 years of age. he having come to the West Coast in his boyhood, in the year 180!). Alter a brief stay in Hokitika, he proceeded to the Addison's Kbit Coldfield, and later to the Duller Gorge district, where he has ever since been engaged in farming, and where he had been also associated with his brother. .Mr John Burley, in a coal mining venture.
Mr Jas. O’Brien, M.B. has received a letter from the Minister of Itailways to the effect that the Bailway Department is unable to accede to his request to take over the railway line at Boss owned by Messrs Stuart, and Chapman. The Minister states that, in the event of the Department deciding to extend railway system southwards from Boss, a different alignment and location would probably be adopted, and the line laid by Messrs Stuart and Chapman would tlierotorc be of little value. The letter goes on to state that Messrs Stuart and Chapman's line is not suitable to carry the Department’s rolling stock, and would require something like an expenditure of £8023 to put it in suitable condition.

Tin- lady, whose bedroom window looked on to the verandah was a wakened hv the successive crashes but she only left the blankets in time to see the ear disappear. The motorist had recovered control, and hacked out without waiting to make either explanations or apologies.
