BOY SCOUTS
(Contributed)
The latest news from Dunedin seems to show that if careful preparation goes for anything, the success of the. forthcoming Jamboree is already assured. The Camp is to he under the charge of Captain .). I). Campbell who i.s coming over specially from the Cook Islands, where he is Scout Commissioner, to he present at the Jamboree. Cap-
tain Campbell was until last month the only New Zealand Scout to hold the Silver Wolf which i.s the highest award in the Scout Brotherhood and is a certain sign of very eminent scout service. The veteran, Captain Sandford who was in charge of the New Zealand Boy Scouts who attended the Wembley and Copenhagen Jamborees, has now received tho same honour.
Under Captain Campbell it is .safe to prophesy that Tahiuia Park will become the happiest plot of land in New Zealand for the fortnight of the Jamboree.
Entries for the various sports events, for the swimming gala, and for the exhibits will close in Novoinlier. but the Hokitika contingent are already discussing the subject of training. The Second Troop are now without an Assistant Scoutmaster, and help, either temporary or permanent, is wanted in the following, and other directions:—Stage management for forthcoming dramatic entertainment, training in running, jumping, climbing and similar events l'or the Jamboree party; help with the cubs (junior hoys) L 0—3.0 p.m. on Tuesdays; propaganda and recruiting work in the town both among the hoys and also possible committee-men; instruction in singing etc., etc.
All members of the Scout Troop who have not attended lately are warned that their names will lie crossed off this week and their badges called in unless they communicate with their Patrol Leader or Scoutmaster forthwith. The places of these hoys in the troop will bo offered to recruits who apply on Tuesdays between T. 0—9.0 p.m.. at the Scout Room (next to the Swimming Baths). The above does not refer to hoys who have already explained recent absences. Weather permitting the 2nd. Volt Cuh Pack will spend Saturday next in the bush, assembly at 10.0 a.in.
