HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. ■WELLINGTON, July SO. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated July 25th from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— BUTTER. Fair business lias been done during tiiis week at rising prices. The market is firm at the close. Official quotations are:— New Zealand—Finest salted, 191 s to lfj'.s per ewt (Is Sid to Is SRI per lb) ; unsalted, IDds to 200 s per ewt (Is 8( d to Is 9R| per lb) ; other qualities, ISOs to 190 s |ier ewt (Is 7ijd to Is <i< 1 per lb). Australian—Salted, ISOs to 190 s per ewt (Is 8d to Is B.',d per lb): other qualities. 108 s to !Blis per ewt (Is (1.1 to Is 7:Jd ))er lb); unsalted, 190 s to 19Is per ewt (Is SRI to Is gid per lb) ; other qualities. 170 s to ISOs per ewt (Is OR) to Is 7;,'<l per lb). Argentine—lSOs to 181 s. up to 188< per ewt (Is 7.’,d to Is 7R1., to Is Sd per lb); other uualities, 17(ls to 178 s ]ier ewt (Is ORI to Is /d per lb); salted. 196 s per ewt (Is SRI per lb) : unsalted, 200 s per ewt i Is 9RI per lb). Siberian—l72s to 178 s per ewt (Is 6ld to Is 7d per lb); exceptional, 180 s per ewt i.ls 7*d wr lb). Danish—l9Bs to 200 s per ewt (Is BRI to Is Od per lb). CHEESE. The market is quieter and steady. Official quotations are:— English, finest farmers: Firm on short makes: 120 s to 130 s per ewt (Is ltd to Is 2d per lb). Canadian—Coloured and white, 108 s to 110 s per ewt (11 Id to 11 fjd per lh). New Zealand—Coloured, 108 s to 110 s per ewt (Ills to 11R1 per lb); white, 109 s to 110 s per ewt (Hid to llijd per lh). Shipments of New Zealand produce arrived this week per s.s. Port Camphell and Corinthio. HEMP. The Manila market opened dull and quotations declined to CIO per ton and value for “J” grade August-October shipments. The market was somewhat steadier at the close and “ >1 ” RJ'ade August-October shipments were quoted at Cls 10s. The New Zealand market is quiet. Secondhand sellers offered July-September shipments highpoints at CIO, fair at £36 10s, but no business reported at these prices. r l he market was easier at the close. TA BLOW. The market is quiet and the demand is only moderate at auction. There was no change in prices except for: — .Mutton, dark to dull, 42s (id to 43s (id per ewt. Beef, lair to good, 44s Od to 47s per ewt. Mixed, fair to good, 44s to 17s per ewt. Gut, etc., 33s to 42s per ewt. APPLES. The market is somewhat improved and prices are about the same as last quotations. Condition of Barnnga .shipment as further examined same as indicated last week. WOOL. The sales closed on Thursday. The Continental demand was maintained throughout. Fine merino closed linn 5 per cenl above Mav rates, hut othoi descriptions have barely maintained (heir position, closing par to 5 pt‘i cent below Inst series. I'aulty soils show full extent of drop. Average closing rates:—(iO-OJ’s (merino). Is Od to 2s Id per lb) : 50’s su)x'r half-bred. Is 7d to.ls 9d per lh) : 48’s line crossbred. Is Sd to Is Od per lb); 44-40’s medium crossbred. Is 2d to Is Id per lb; 30JO’s coarse cross-bred, Is Id to Is 2RI per lb. One hundred and forty-two thousand bales were offered, of which it is estimated that 112.000 were sold.
