LONDON, July 27. e The sensational sale of the contents if Sargent’s studio was completed at bristles, which was again crowded oil|i European and American buyers, l'lie successful bids totalled ten thousand guineas per hour, though most ot ,ne works were only copies of Yelaspiez's and Hals’s and other wellknown paintings which had been lying ibout the studio for years. A copy ot v'clasqoc'.’s Hilanderas was sold for nineteen thousand guineas and the •opv of a head by Hills brought 1 ~100 guineas, the prices of which suggest iriginal masterpieces. Other offerings )f light sketches of Sargent’s own work, including the decorations ol Boston Museum and sketches of a Bedouin chief brought thirty four hundred guineas. Arthur James, a member of the crew tf'lhe research yacht “St. George” (which left last year for research in the Pacific Islands) lias arrived ill England. lie says he and four others complained of short rations, and obtained their discharge at Balboa by means of an application to the British Consul. The St. George ran on to a reel in a gale at Rapa, hut was refloated. At Easter Isabel she was blown seaward with the Chilian Governor and a wealthy ranch owner aboard. They were unable to return for three days. The voyage from Easter Island to Balboa took 403 days. The food and coal > were exhausted. They were then towed to Panama, and a tug was summoned hv wireless.
