The main grounds on which the :tj>--.teal is Indued are:—(l) That the convit t ion was against ttu* evidence, amt against the weight of evidence; (2) that no evidence was given on behalf of the informant at the hearing to support a conviction: CD that it was not proved tltti. the milk was sold tor human consumption; (-1) that even if it were proved Lhat the milk was sold for human consumption, the offence with which the defendant was charged was not committed wilfully; to) ihat the defendant did not sell lood within tlie meaning of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act .KIRS; (0) that even if it were proved that the defendant sold food, tla- loot! sold was not milk to which witter had been added; C) flint the learned Alagixirato was wrong withholding decision as to penalty until alter the other informations had been heard ; (A) that, the penalty was imposed on Dtilfy’s evidence, quite in entirely separate and distinct informations against other defendants; CD that the conviction is bad, and bad in law. Mr IT tint extended the sentence I rout a mouth to live weeks to make it appealable. and fixed security at £lO. As soon as the appeal is lodged the sentence is automatically suspended. Its presence is encouraging, but it proves nothing regarding oil. One of the largest wild lniars ovei shot in the Wellington province _ has just met it- fate from the ritle <1 M r Russell price, of Akeatarawa. This boar was a well-known character. It had long been thought that it was responsible for a considerable loss among the lambs. Time and again preparations had been made and a watch kept, hill the hoar's cunning served it well till now. Mr Price was doing a quiet, watchful round, when he saw the huge brute leaving a Hock with a lam, in ; its month, making towards the bush. He managed to draw a head, and killed the marauder.
n bi'cpD Ki.oru monopoly. WELLINGTON, duly 27. In the Appeal Court, the Hour-mill-ing case to-day concluded. Air Mvers, for the respondents, said that if the bilkers experienced difficulty in ,ratting the brands of Hour they wanted, it was their own fault. An embargo was in existence, and the Government had tlie power to remedy the position. Any difficulty was the result of some accidental temporary circumstance. Mr Fair replied to the respondent s arguments, and the Court reserved its decision.

A mi (kilo-a nod man, William T.indonar on era "Oil in oppossuin hunting' at bake Waikaremoaua. was crossing a swamp when his horse fell and he was badly crushed about the upper portion of the body, lie lay from Saturday until Sunday afternoon before being discovered. He was carried eight miles over rough bush last night, to the power house and was brought by car to Wairoa hospital. He was in an unconscious state to-day.
