WEST COAST BOWLING CENTRE.
T 1 i E ANXUAL M E ETIXG. The annual meeting of the Most Coast Centre of the New Zealand Bowling Association took place last evening at 8 o’clock at Mr J. Ring's office, Greymouth. There were present: — Messrs J. Ring (Chairman). W. E. Reynolds (Treasurer), 1). McKay (Secretary), F. Blaxal! (Westport). IBowes (Runanga). G. A. Blackwood (Beeftmi) and A. E. Beniamin (.Hokitika). The minutes of Hie lasi annual and special meetings were read and cunfirmed, and the outward correspondence approved. The inward correspondence which generally had been dealt with, was received, and action taken approved.
The N.Z. Bowling Association notified some alterations to llie rules including a regulation that mats were not to exceed 15 x 18 or he less than 3fi x 15; that the onus had been placed on the skips of teams to see that the howls used by members ol the team had been duly tested.
The Westport Club wrote asking lor a donation towards the cost of installing electric light on their green, but after consideration, the Suggestion was not approved. Mr Blexall mentioned that if the light was installed it would help to do away with possible congestion during a tournament, but it was considered play during a tournament was quite strenuous enough without extending it past daylight. BALANCE SHEET.
The Treasurer (Mr Reynolds) submitted the balance sheet for the year. ijd> showed the year had been started with a credit balance of £7O 18s 7d. Club levies totalled £8 5s fid ami profit of Last year’s tournament at Hokitika £l2 (is; the total receipts amount inn to £95 18s Id. The payments, including provision of cup for champion singles and additions to other trophies, and levy to the New Zealand Association totalled £2B 19s 3d. leaving a credit balance of £O9 18s I (id. Reeriv od and adopted as very satisfactory. A complimcnlary vote was passed to the Hon Treasurer. Accounts presented amounting I<> £•> 13s fid were passed for pavnienl. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The Chairman thanked nieinb'i's lor again re-electing him. expressing his pleasure in the expression ol continued approval of fast actions. The Chairman reported that considerable trouble bad been experienced in obtaining a suitable design for new certificates for winners at tournaments, but I bat a design bad been now approved. and delivery was expected at any moment, when those secured at last tournament would be at once issued to winners. The price was a substantial one. but a very ornate design had been secured, the cost being £2 Ills per year.- Received and approved. ANNEAL TOI'R.NAMENT.
Consideration was taken ol the suggesitons put forward at last meeting of the Centre in connection with tlie proposals lor luture tournaments, with a view to preventing these gatherings becoming two unwieldy, and which had been referred to the various ( lulls lor an expression of opinion. A general discussion took place in which various views were voiced. Then Mr Benjamin moved that the tournament It" limited m 20 rinks and Jl) pairs, games for l inks to he 21 heads and lor pairs Id heads. No seconder. Mr Blackwood moved tHal l!ic tournament be confined to rinks only, not to exceed 29. am! that provision he made for eight games to lie played by each rink; that the pairs lie cut out with the suggestion for considerntioi by Clubs of holding a special pairs tournament at a later date on similar lines to the rinks tournament.
Tin* West port Club had submitted a desire for no restriction to be placed on nominations up to 9fi players. Alter discussion. Mr Bbixall seconded the motion.
Mr Bowes staled his Club desired that no res Ire I imi whatever I”' phn cd on nominations, bis Club desiring Hi every opportunity he given lor intermingling with outside players. Air Blackwood pointed out that the tournament was a \)est Coast one and Coast players should have the first consideration, though it was always a pleasure to welcome visitors from other clubs.
It was pointed out that the extension of entries beyond 2l) rinks lor a single green would mean the extending ol tin duration of the. tournament, without giving players any more games, while the proposal for rinks only, would enable players to have eight games each in three days and enable the finals to he iilayed on the fourth day.
Mi- Bowes recognised the difficulty that would arise. Air Ring stated that the suggestion could he tried lor one year, and then if necessary could he altered. In any event the following year when the tournament would come to Runanga or Greymouth the two greens could be utilised and this would prevent congest ion. The motion that the tournament be confined to .20 rinks, lor rink play only, was then agreed to on the voices.
It was resolved that the tournament for 1926 he allotted to the Westport Club, to commence on Monday, February Bth. 1920. and cover lour days. A discussion followed in regard to the reception of nominations and Mr Benjamin moved that nominations be invited from Most Coast clubs for the rink tournament, nominations to close on Dec. 31st:.. the name of the skip to he given, and to he accompanied by the necessary fees, the names of the personnel of the rink to be supplied before 24th. January.—Seconded by Mr Blackwood and 'carried. Mr Benjamin moved that immediateIv nominations are (dosed, it tin* number required is not filled, that invitations he extended to outside clubs to take part, acceptance being first oflered to those Clubs who have ill the past taken part in Coast tournaments, the St. Albans Club (winners of last year’s rink tournament) on this occasion to receive the first invitation, but the tola! number to be limited to 20 rinks. Seconded by Mr Blackwood and carried. Entrance fees for tho rinks were fixed at 10s per player, and trophy prizes were fixed at : first £9 per rink and £2 for second. The usual percentage of receipts fi eu lerta ini ng. was agreed to. It was resolved to invite Clubs to consider the holding ol a pairs tournament at a later date: or of holding a champion of champion pairs competition, at the same time that the champion of champion singles takes place, decisions to he senti in to the Centre not later than 31st. Oct. ft was decided that the champion ot champion singles for 1926 he played on the Rmuuiga green, ami that the pairs tournament, or the champion of champion pairs (whichever is decided on) be also played at the same time, and on the same green, the date to l-e fixed at the tournament at Westport. It was left to the Executive of the Centre to confer with the Bunanga Club to decide whether the green was in proper order for such play, Mr Bowes stating that they had every hope that the green would he found in good order this season.
Complimentary references were made ill recognition of the work of tin- honorary secretary (Mr D. McKay) and pleasure was expressed that he had continued in office. A vote of appreciation to the Chairman for past services and also for presiding that evening was passed, and the meeting terminated at 11 p.in.
