After a hearing at the .Magistrate’s Court before Air Cutten S.AL, counsel for defendant agreed to an order for ejectment of several Maoris lrom land at Takapuna leased. A!r H. H. Adams appeared for the Homan Catholic Bishop, similar action against other Maoris having been disposed of io the same way on the Magistrate's decision and subsequently upheld by the .Supreme Court. The older in the present ease was suspended for fourteen days pending a decision of defendants petition, now before Parliament.

The rosponsihiltv lor the loss ol furniture and bedding destroyed by a fire in a. railway truck was the- question in a disputed claim for £5-1 Pis fid by Edward Abbot Ltd against Gerard Haycock and Eric McCoskrie, in the -Magistrate’s Court. It was stated the Railway Department refused to pay for the goods and the extra Is (id per ton had not been paid with the freight to render the Department, liable. Defendants ordered the goods from plaintiff to lie delivered by rail to the customer. Mr McKean S.AL. said he did not think, under the circumstances that, there was any duty implied on plaintiff, except to hand the goods to the transport company in the ordinary manner. I’laintilf was awarded the amounted claimed with costs. SHOOTING GAME. AUCKLAND, July IS. Beckham (farmer of Ohinewai) Luke Hughes (Dealer of Auckland), and Doctor F. J. Raynor (of Auckland) hy the Acclimatisation Society. Dr. Raynor and Hughes also were charged with being in possession of a protected bird, teal duck. Counsel for the defence said Lhe defendant shot twenty-three brace on June- Ist., and twenty-eight brace the following day. No doubt they under estimated the number they were shooting. Mr Roynton S.AL, lined Stanley Raynor and Backhaul £lO each. Tn tlie second ease the Magistrate hold no prima facie ease for conviction and dismissed the charge.

A FATAL FALL. AUCKLAND, duly Id
The death occurred ai the. Hospital here lasi night of Cecil Dane Shepherd. a labourer, aged 33, who 101 l from Wiustones dotty. Customs Street, West, into the water yesterday morning. Deceased was partially blind, and he was employed as a labourer at the Blind Institute at Parnell. lie had been delivering goods and standing at the end of the jetty, when lie tripped and fell 12 feet on to a cargo ol telegraph poles on the deck ot the scow

Madeline Afonica Doyle, aged sixteen years, collapsed and died after having been placed under gas in a dental surgery al Rangiora this mornng. She was, to all appearances, quite strong and well, and came out ol the gas normally, but almost immediately afterwards she collapsed and died. The doctors used artificial respiration for an hour without avail. .Miss Doyle underwent an operation at Lewisham Hospital two months ago, luit 'lie made a good recovery there.
