The “Argus” reports the discovery of valuable deposits of phosphates over i considerable area within 25 miles ot Capetown. Alter a fruitless prospect for oil, one of a party of engineers and experts noticed the walls ot a house built of peculiar stone, which proved to lie pet rilled guano. The area ot the deposit is approximately seven miles square, containing something like seveil million tons of phosphates. Shallhave been sunk over a square mile, and allowing the average depth, proved to dale, to he live feel, the deposit can he considered inexhaustible during the present century.
