The afternoon sitting was occupied by members discussing answers given by Ministers to quest ions, asked since the House opened. At the evenings sitting, Mr Savage , resumed the debate on the Address-in-Jii'epiy concluding by moving an amendment to the effect that the basic wage should bo raised to the 1021 standard ami (i) that the salaries of publicservants below £3OO should he raised to the pre-war standard, measured by ! purchasing power. After a debate which was carried on by Messrs McCombs. Parry, Lysnar, Sullivan, Parr, Wili'ord, and Holland. ' ■a divison was taken, resulting in the defeat of the amendment by 3> to 33, Liberals and Labour voting in the same lobby. The debate on the main question was carried on by Messrs McMillan, Corrigan and Coates. After the mover : had replied the House agreed to the motion that a respectful address lie presented to his Excellency in reply to his Excellency’s speech. The House rose at 1.30 a.m.
