GLASS IN FOOD.
DANGER OF CHEAP GERMAN JARS. ‘‘Glass should he prohibited for use as food containers, and it is likely that this will lx' one of the measures put into force by the Ministry of Health following their inquiry into the presence of glass in food.” said Mr B. A. Burrell, city analyst of Leeds. He added: Cheap hand-made jars from Germany contain air bubbles which burst when, hot iam is poured into the jars. Glass also finds its way into preserves when full iars are broken in factories and the preserve rebottled. It is quite likely that the widespread prevalence of appendicitis and cancer is due to glass particles swallowed with food. When you are buying jam. buy it in stoneware jars.
