N.X. RUGBY UNION. WELLINGTON. July 9. At a meeting of the Executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union, exception was taken to si,rne statements published in the Rule Rook issued by the Referees Association on the ground that thev acted as if they were the controlling body of the game. It was decided to call their attention to the matter. It was reported to the meeting that Xow South Wales wanted to send 29 men with a manager anil masseur, instead of 20. It was considered tliat the latter wa- quite enough to play ten matches, and the increase iu iiumliers refused. Ihe New South Wales Union also protested against placing the tc-st at the end of the tour, pointing out New Zealand had taken the same line in England.
The meeting voted C44(1 to further school fool ball. LONGEVITY AT OAMARU. OAMARU. July 8. A remarkable mortality record has been established by Oamaru during the quarter ending June 30tli. Twen-ty-six deaths were registered, of which sixteen were persons of seventy-three rears of age and eight over 80 years.
