LATE LOCALS.
Stall'-Sergoani A. Evans, Y.C., D.C.M., who succeeds Sergeant Major Jordan on the Defence Department stall', has arrived in Greymouth. Ho served in the Great War in the King’s Liverpool Regiment and the Lincolnshire Regiment. He was awarded the Y.C. for gallantry at Arrau. The Excelsior Ball took place last evening and proved to be one ol the most pronounced successes yet held in the Soldiers’ Half. The large hall, which was tastel'uly decorated with the Club’s colours, was packed to its utmost capacity. 'I no music was ol the best, the orchestra '■—mg to respond to numerous encores. Supper was served in the annexe, and was all that could be desired. During the evening a competition for a trophy, donated by .Mr \Y 11. Stopl'orth was won by Mr H. Preston. Mr if. A. Timmccm bad control of the lioor and kept things moving rapidly until abnit 2 o'clock, when the large crowd dispersed, voting tho night-out a very enjoyable one.
