A young man named David M inckler was charged with murdering his father, Franz Winoklor, at M'entworthville. The evidence .showed the father was a hopeless invalid and several times had asked his son to huv him a revolver to enable him to end his suffering. The .son finally purchased a revolver and when his mother and the rest of the family retired he gave it to his father and went to another par' of the house, lie heard a report and returned to his father's room where lie found him dead with a bullet in his bend.
The jury returned a verdict of guilty as an accessory helore the fact, with a strong recommendation to mercy, besides suggesting that he he given the benefits of the First Offenders Act. TJie Judge recorded the sentence n death. The evidence showed the father and son had been on the most allertimate terms. MINIMUM WAGE DEMAND. SVDNKV. July 7. A mass meeting of the \ ietorian seamen endorsed the resolution carried hv the Sydney hraneh of the union to tie no all Inter-State vessels on the 4tli July. The meeting also resolved that every effort should be made to harass the Government should it attempt to deport any unionist. A r>rotest was made against the imprisonment of Noel l.yons in New Zealand the executive of the union being given jiower to take steps to have him released. MARINE ENQUIRY. MELBOURNE. July . The Murine Enquiry into the supposed loss of the ketch hialeeta has opened. The hialeeta has not been heard of since the night, of loth. April, when she left Semaphore after taking in stores. William Clark (hat-h ■ master at Launceston) gave evidence that lie expected the hialeeta. at Launceston on 6th. February last. He was of opinion the ketch was well, sound and the sails not in had condition. William Knight (owner) said he valued the' vessel at about £4.000 sterling. She was insured for £IOOO. Tim inquiry was adjourned.
