WHEAT GROWING LAND. SYDNEY, July 1
Tho Government Statistician has prepared an interesting report dealing with effect of fallowing wheat growing lands. Flo shows that fallowed land in the Rivcrina produced forty-five and the other districts 7o per cent, higher yields than stubble land. The season generaly was very favourable for crops.

As a result of good rains in the agricultural areas it, is expected that two hundred thousand acres more than last year will he sown under wheat. On the basis of last year’s average it is expected the yield will total over 2f> million bushels. CRIME RAMPANT IN MELBOURNE. MELBOURNE, July I. Robbery outrages arc rampant. Three masked robbers, at the revolver point, stuck up a lady and gentlemen cycling ill Richmond. They robbed the man of his watch, chain and money and also took a. ring olf the woman's finger. They then escaped. A resident of Tourak surprised a masked and armed man in his bedroom. He grappled and threw the intruder down the stairs whence he escaped. A BUNGLED FLIGHT. SYDNEY. July 1. Out of a squadron of eleven aeroplanes which left Melbourne for the Richmond aerial base only three reached their destination without a mishap. The others either developed one-in-trouble, or struck trouble, chiefly in th.c shape of getting embedded in the deep mud when landing. None of the mishaps were serious.

RKDFKRX MURDER TRIAL. SYDNEY, July 1
The trial of Cecil Aves, charged with the murder of Mrs Quirko at Rodforn. has commenced. Aves pleaded not guilty. Alice Quirk gave evidence that on the night of the tragedy, she was awakened by some noise in the room where she was sleeping with her mother. She saw Aves near- her bed. She was quite certain of the intruder’s identity, hui she did not remember anything further of the night’s happenings. Up to the time that she and her mother retired, they had been on perfecllv Irienillv terms with Aves.
