The action has caused very great controversy, some shippers maintaining it will encourage youths to turn seamen, ami others declaring it is impossible to pay such wages and remain in business. It is estimated a hundred dollars a month aboard the ship is equivalent to 180 ashore. A L'STRA WAN TREATY DEBATE. OTTAWA, June 25. 'l'lie Senate began the consideration of the Australian Treaty this morning. 'I he debate is continuing. One amendment moved is that the reduction on goods coming into Canada under the treaty should not apply to goods on which any bounty had been paid by the Australian Government.
