The Executive met at. the County Chambers at 7.40 o’clock. Present. - Mr T. \V. Duff (President). Dr Teiehelmaiiii, Messrs Bruce, Butler, Jeflries, M.aekay. Evans, Morris, Richards, Maefarlaiio, Dalgleish. Mclntosli. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. Erom (a it ter hury League asking for copy of annual report.— Received. Prom AY. Goss, Christchurch, thanking League for his appointment as representative, and expressing pleasure Doit Mr Butler had been appointed in his ,-tead. —Received.
Emm Mrs Massey, acknowledging letter of condolence. Received. Emm Southland League forwarding copy of report of conference, also in reference to publicity matters. — Received.
From District Traffic Manager advising alteration in Saturday railway time-table. —Received. Emm Newmans Ltd regarding ac<ouiit for transport of visiting dele,.hues from Wellington.—Received. GENERAL. It was resolved to urge that the Coion Gov he asked to run excursion trips to the West Coast Sounds during the period ol the Dunedin Exhibition. It was decided to ask Mr O Hi ion M P to collier with the Southland members in respect to general matters aborting tic South Island, such as overseas shipping, as lollowiug the request from the late Conlerenee ol Leagues at Invercargill. |)r Teichclmann roierred to the limiter of soil survey for the district and mentioned he had discussed the subject xxitli Professor Easterlieltl of the Cnwibron Institute. The Prolcssor indicated it xvas necessary to deal xxitli land whereof them was a large area of a similar kind. Mr Dalgleish said it xxas necessary to go fully into any proposition thoroughly. On the motion ol Dr Teiehelnianu it xxas resolved to suggest la ihe Director ol the Caxvthron Institute that a sail survey ol Westland would he anprecialed it a visit toitld be paid to the district. The President expressed the thanks to the League tor his successful mi'-sion to Nelson during xx hi. ii he had advertised the district of Westland. railway matters. Messrs Kent and AVellstead of the Railwav Department attended to meet the League, and were xvelcomed liv tiie President. Mr Dull' stated a silling was required rear the cattle loading hank
adjacent to the hospital, to facilitate the loading and unloading of supplies for the hospital institution which came in buik. Mr Hruce referred to the turn-table which had be,-n promi-cd some months ego. It had been stated that the turntable was essential lor the large engines to he used on the local lines. Air Kent said there had been some hold up with the land owners with regard to the turn-table site. The matter. however, was now being finalised, and it was nmv a question as to the size of the turn-table to be put in. Probably it would be a larger turntable than xxas at first proposed. Rut the matter would lie decided shortly and the turn-table put in. Regarding the siding Mr Kent said there were some difficulties in the way. but be would ask the Traffic Manager the next time he was on the Coast |o meet tie- ( oiun ittee and dismiss the matter. The meeting; proceeded to discuss several local and General matters affecting the railways. Mr Butler tendered a vote of thanks to flic railway ollicials for their attendance. The motion was carried by acclamation. .Mr Kent acknowledged
