But it is not so well known that our New Zealand grown tobaccos are now subjected to the same roasting or toasting process, and with the same result. The ilavour is brought fully out, while at the same time the deleterious properties of the tobacco are destroyed. All tobaccos, no mutter where grown, have this in common that they contain nicotine. some more, some loss. And it is this poison that is chiefly responsible for the sufferings' of those who indulge too freely in the u>e of the migrant weed. Heart and nerves are generally affected and often the eyesight. Scientists now tell us that toasting neutralises part of the nicotine, and that toasted tobaccos may. therefore, be smoked with impunity.
