The naval transport Chaumont arrived to-day with a party of twelve Congressmen and their lamilies. anil two million dollars of gold bullion. The Congressional party were welcomed b\ Admiral Coontz. and the bullion was met by an untied guard of one thou-
sand sailors. The loetd Honolulu ladies adorned the Congressional party with (lower garlands, after the traditional Hawaiian fashion. 1 The gold was carefully removed to two battleships. Upon the arrivaf of the American fleet in Australia, the bullion will be deposited in the local banks, and drawn against in sterling, to pay the men and purchase supplies. The Congressmen will inspect the fleet and also Pearl Harbour. It had been hoped that they might continue with the fleet to Australia, but the impending session of Congress, which, it is believed will consider the question of extending and strengthening the Hawaii harbour defences, makes their presence necessary in Washington long hefor the fleet returns from Australia. The Congressmen will, however, propeed this week to Manila, returning thence to the United States. ITALIAN WAR DEBTS. WASHINGTON, June 19. Robb, acting-Miuister of Finance, has given notice of a bill to authorise the conclusion of a treaty between Canada and Australia. Tariff concessions are provided in thiec schedules, the first two giving British preferential and intermediate tariff rates granted by Australia to Canada the third giving Canada's concessions to Australia.
