THE BIG FAIR.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. On l'ii,lay afternoon anil evening of this week the Soldiers’ Hall is engaged for a monster fair in aid ol the Hokitika Beautifying Society. It promises to he a day of days, gilts being promised from all quarters. Lilts will be received at the hall from 9 o’clock on Friday, ami at 2.89 the building will be open to the public. There is tin- promise ni a brave display ol goods of all kind-, embracing rome-tiblcs of all kind-, fancy goods, novelties, flowers. put plants ct I '.. ole. During the afternoon there will he two interesting competitions for juveniles. There will lie an elocutionary contest starting at 8.30 o'clock divided into three sections according to ages. icrtiuiis will held a final competition at night, commencing at 7.30 o clock. From 9 o'clock onward, dancing will lie arranged [or. Ihe orchestra ol (bedfellow Bros, -.'.i1l play selections during the evening, and supply the music for the. dance.

Both in the afternoon and evening the tea rooms will lie open, and light refreshments will he obtainable for afternoon tea and supper. '1 here will be side shows in the adjoining rooms, where novel surprises will he presented. The Al mi iei pal Band will discourse a special programme outside the building during the evening. The effort is a special one to assist tin* Beautifying Society with its work, and aid liy gifts or other donations will ho most acceptable. Patronage at the Fair is invited specially, for patrons will he able to have a jolly time in the building where the stalls will be well provided with gilts lor purchase.
